Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has restated his administration’s commitment to building strong institutions that would guarantee sustenance of its laudable achievements across various sectors of the state’s economy.
The Governor was speaking during an interactive session with Ndi Anambra resident in Rivers State which he held yesterday in Portharcourt.
Governor Obiano, who regretted that what the state has had in the past were strong individuals as leaders, resulting in the disruption of many laudable government initiatives, noted that while individuals come and go, institutions when they are made viable, will endure.
He identified some of the institutions which his administration has set up so far with the backing of the law to include the State’s Small Business Agency, ASBA responsible for driving growth of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises through provision of funds, the ANSIPPA which coordinates investment activities, the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority which controls structural development, the State Physical Planning Board which took over from ASUDEB among others.
What this has achieved for the State he noted, is coordinated development across the various areas while it is expected that with the legislative backing which his government has secured for them, subsequent administrations will have no option than to key into them and continue the State’s match towards greatness.
The governor explained that the reason behind his visits to Ndi Anambra in the Diaspora is to mobilise the required support for his administration in its efforts to build a prosperous Anambra State, as according to him, the state has what it takes in terms of human and material resources, to become the most developed state not only in the country but in Africa.
In their separate remarks, Chief Okechukwu Nwosu who is from Awka and Chief Dominic Okafor from Igboukwu commended the governor for the initiative to consistently present his scorecard to the people who gave him the mandate he exercises, adding that the gesture lends credence to his stance to ensure effective people’s participation in the State governance under him.
They however emphasized the need for the state government to take the initiative further to organise business summits where major industrialists will be intimated on what government is doing to ensure that their businesses will thrive when they return.
