Worried by their transfer to the Northern zone of the country without any incentives, about 1,260 policemen from six South West states of the country have complained bitterly against the ‘lopsided’ exercise from the Nigeria Police Service Commission.
The protest was sequel to a signal signed by AIG Abdul Bude from the Force Headquarters, Abuja and dated December 24, 2016 with reference no CB 4770/FS/FHQ/ABJ/Vol. 5/232, which mandated the affected officers to resume in Kaduna on January 4, 2017.
Though, the police officers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said as security agents, their primary duty was to protect lives and property, they were, however, not comfortable with the way the transfer which dated back to 1997 was being handled and their transfer to the terror-ravaged region where the Boko Haram insurgents are wrecking havoc was unacceptable.

A source revealed to New Telegraph in Ibadan Wednesday that the transfer which was done in 1997, 2003 and 2015 had recorded heavy casualties among the policemen from the South West due to non-provision of necessary facilities, adding that they were unhappy because their Northern counterparts were not treated in such an inhuman manner.
One of the affected policemen, who said he spoke on behalf of others, disclosed that their Northern colleagues, who were equally transferred at the same time to the South West, usually shunned the transfer were treated as sacred cows because despite disobeying the police authorities, they would collect their salaries.
He lamented that lives of several policemen from the South West that were transferred in the past had been wasted by the insurgents, while also citing non-provision of vehicles that would convey them to their new stations; non-provision of accommodation and other welfare services, language barrier and non-familiarity with the Northern terrain as problems they were facing.
