How policemen extorted us in Lagos - NAIJ.com User

One of our ardent readers (name withheld) has shared an encounter he had with policemen yesterday, December 12, on Lateef Jakande road in Ikeja, Lagos.

The policemen were said to have mastered the act of extorting money in all ways from unsuspecting road users. In a mail tagged 'Daylight robbery by policemen on Lateef Jakande road in Ikeja', a NAIJ.com user revealed how he and his friend were extorted by some policemen.

According to him, each of the policemen have their own specific duties. While the ones in uniforms stop 'offending' motorists, the ones in mufti (who obviously are the ogas) are primarily concerned with negotiations.

Read the mail as sent in below with pictures and audio to back up claims:

"Policemen have made it a habit to make quick money from virtually every motorist in the country at the moment. So as to make a few quick thousands, they stop motorists plying their normal route claiming they disobeyed a traffic rule just so they can instill fear into the hearts of motorists in a bid to make money.

"Today, I was charged NGN10,000. The men on the bike were the policemen who collected the bribe. The policemen including the one in brown and the one in blue polo acted as the bosses and were the ones primarily involved in the negotiations whilst the others in uniform did the stopping.

"They begin their collection activities by 2pm till about 4pm at the Lateef Jakande Road and were present Sunday and Monday 11, 12th December, 2016.''
