Prof. Itse Sagay who heads the Presidential Advisory Committee on Anti- Corruption (PACAC) fired the first shot when he granted an interview in which he absolved the Independent National Electoral Commission ((INEC) of any blame in the issues around the contentious elections in Rivers state.
Sagay said INEC is “doing very well” and blamed “totally determined and desperate politicians, led by the state governor, Nyesom Wike” for working against “free and fair elections in Rivers state.”
The Rivers government has now responded in kind to the law professor through the state’s Commissioner of Information and Communications, Dr. Austin Tam- George.

3. “No one in Nigeria takes Sagay with a pint of seriousness. He is one of the pseudo-intellectuals seduced by the honey of power.”
4. “Sagay’s incessant and unwarranted attacks on governor Wike betray his frustration at the repeated failures of the APC government to overrun Rivers State, and loot the State’s treasury.”
5. “Our leaders will never be chosen for us by any one from Katsina, Abuja or Sambissa Forest.
Sagay is a false intellectual with a broken moral compass.”
This isn’t the first time Sagay is taking on a sitting Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor. In April, he said Ekiti Gov. Ayo Fayose is a “man who is on the brink of destruction” who “has no restraint about what he does.”
He was responding at the time to Fayose’s decision to write to the Chinese government asking it not to offer loans to the government of Nigeria. Sagay said Fayose had no business writing such a letter.
“He has no business at all and I regard him as being on a journey to self destruction and I wish him luck. Let him continue to destroy himself with his mad impulses,” the professor said.
In response, Fayose said Sagay’s criticism is a “brazen display of hypocrisy.”
