Senate lacks power to call for SGF's sack – Group

Senate lacks power to call for SGF's sack – Group

Mr Babachir David Lawal, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF)

Senate lacked constitutional right to seek for the removal of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Engr. Babachir David over the alleged N220 million contract saga, the National Youth Reform Group (NYRG) has stated.

Chairman of the group, Charles Folayan said at a briefing, in Abuja on Sunday that the Senate could only conduct an independent investigation and refer the accused to the anti-graft agencies, when found guilty rather than advocating for his sack.

Folayan explained further that based on the group’s findings, the official letterhead of the firm was different from the copy found with the Senate ad-hoc committee setup to investigate the matter.

According to him, the accused firm was listed among Federal Government contractors prior to the emergence of the present administration, adding that the SGF had resigned from the firm as director before he assumed his current position in government.

“There is some forgery in the document of the Senate committee. Some of them are false. Take for instance; we have been privileged to see the letter of resignation of Babachir as director in the alleged firm. The SGF resigned from office in 2015, but in the letter with the Senate, it contained 2016,” he said.

He accused the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki of having no moral right to intervene in the situation having being accused of various allegations which according to him, were still pending at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

Folayan said the senate leader was disloyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and had been frustrating the current administration from implementation some of its campaign promises.

“It has been revealed that the allegation against the SGF has some element of misinformation, lies and forgery that the Senate leadership has once been accused of, and that the allegation is the handiwork of some agents of corrupt people who have been prevented by the SGF from having their ways in government,” he added.

A firm, Rholavision Engineering Limited which allegedly belongs to the SGF was said to have engaged in the removal of wild grass at the Internal Displaced Camps (IDP) to the tune of N220 million.
