Also many like, the BBOG co-convener Mrs Oby Ezekwesili have said President Buhari should show sensitivity by visiting the victims. Many Nigerians feel the same way.
However, is it right to expect President Buhari to visit them? Here are some reasons why not:
1. He already sent a delegation
After hearing the news, President Muhammadu Buhari cancelled the regular Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting to send a delegation of top government officials to Rann, Borno state, venue of the accidental bombing of an IDP camp on Tuesday, January 17.
The delegation was led by Alhaji Abba Kyari, and included: Retired Brig. Gen. Mansur Dan Ali (Defence); and Alhaji Lai Mohammed (Information and Culture).
It also included others like: the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Abayomi Olonisakin; the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai; and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.
Is it enough that he sent a powerful delegation? Or does he have to come in person.
2. Security clearance
Before the Nigerian president visits a place, it is vital that he gets security clearance from those in charge of his security.
Given that Borno is an unsafe environment, it would be difficult for the security operatives to give the president security clearance to visit the area.
3. What his death may cause
Lastly, governance in Nigeria is not an easy task, it is very delicate and must be handled with care. If President Buhari was to die due to an attack while visiting the IDP camp victims, then it could lead to huge problems.
An issue like the demise of the current president before his time elapses, can lead to great crisis in the nation.
Do you still think the President must make the visit?
