The second prosecution witness, Mr. Amazi Nwachuckwu, in the ongoing trial of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, on Wednesday ended his testimony after being cross-examined by the defence team.
Shortly after the defence lawyer, Mr. Paul Usoro (SAN), finished cross-examining Nwachukwu, who is the Head of Funds Transfer Unit of the Guaranty Trust Bank, the witness was cross-examined by the prosecution and was subsequently discharged from the witness box.
Nwachukwu was the second prosecution witness to testify in the case, following an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s investigator, Mr. Michael Wetkas, who ended his testimony on November 8, 2016.

After re-examining Nwachukwu on Wednesday, the lead prosecuting counsel, Mr. Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), urged the Danladi Umar-led CCT to adjourn the trial to enable him to call his next witnesses, whom he said were not in court on Wednesday.
Our correspondent had earlier obtained a court document containing a list of prosecution witnesses which was filed by the prosecution with respect to the trial.
The document listed an official of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Mr. Samuel Madojemu, as part of the seven proposed prosecution witnesses.
Madojemu’s briefs at the CCT includes, co-ordinating CCB’s intelligence on observed breaches of the code and asset tracing investigation.
As of the time of filing this report on Wednesday, it was not clear who among the rest of the five listed witnesses whom the prosecution would decide to call next.
The trial was adjourned till February 8 and 9 for further trial.
