Hon Nze Duru, a former member of the House of Representatives, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly breaking into the headquarters of the First Guarantee Pension Limited, FGPL, and carting away cars and incriminating documents against him.

According to Daily Post, he is being detained at Zone 2, Zonal Command, Onikan, Lagos State.

Duru’s arrest is allegedly not the first as he was initially arrested by the EFCC in 2011, but was later admitted to administrative bail in October 2011 alongside his sister, Mrs. Christie Chinyere Ekweonu, who is now the Director of Legal Reporting at the Federal Ministry of Justice, as the surety.

EFCC, however, arrested Mrs. Ekweonu on 11th May 2016 and detained her for weeks after Duru jumped bail.

Following his prosecution, the former lawmaker was said to have applied to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Kpotu Idris, allegedly claiming he had a court order to take over the FGPL. He requested for men to effect the court order.

After evaluating the claims, Owoseni declined Duru’s request for six policemen.

Against the backdrop of this development, the former lawmaker allegedly stormed FGPL headquarters, alongside some armed men on Wednesday and made away with the document relating to criminal prosecution against him, his siblings and some former Directors of the company by security agencies and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, persecond news reports.

According to the report, Duru and the armed bandits held the Managing Director and staff hostage while the attack lasted.

Staff who spoke to the platform on the ground of anonymity said three official cars belonging to the PFA and documents relating to the ongoing trial of the former Rep member, his relatives and other ex-directors of the PFA sacked in 2011 were allegedly carted away.

The armed gang who ransacked offices were unable to gain entrance into the PFA’s strong room and the IT server rooms because staff in those sections had observed the intruders through CCTV monitors and made away with keys to the room.

Recall that the previous administration of the National Pension Commission, PenCom, led by M. K. Ahmad, had sacked the Board of FGPL and set up an Interim Management Committee, IMC, pursuant to Sections 88 (2), 20(i), and 21(j) of the Pension Reform Act 2004.

Confirming the report to Daily Post, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, in a text message wrote, “The case is with Zone 2 please.”
