PUNCH Metro learnt that the okada rider, who was on the run, also inflicted injuries on the deceased’s friend, identified only as Gbenga.
It was gathered that Johnson, Gbenga and one other friend, Segun, had gone to revel at Glasshouse, an event centre in the Iju Ishaga area.
The friends were said to have taken two motorcycles while returning home around 12am on Sunday.
On getting to Akanni Street, where Johnson and Gbenga wanted to alight, an argument reportedly ensued between them and the okada rider over the fare, which degenerated into a scuffle.

A resident of the area, Sola Kamaru, said the motorcyclist stabbed Johnson and Segun in the process and fled the scene.
He said, “The incident happened around 1am last Sunday. But I got to know at 8am when I was going to the church and saw bloodstains on the road. I learnt the victims and the motorcyclist had agreed on a particular fare but on getting here, the friends said they could not afford the amount.
“That was how an altercation ensued between them and the okada rider. He stabbed one of the boys (Johnson) in the neck and the other one in the back and ran away. The victims don’t live on this street. I learnt they resided in the Ijaiye area. The case was reported at the Ijaiye-Ojokoro Police Station.”
A police source disclosed to PUNCH Metro that Johnson had bled to death before operatives from the station arrived at the scene of the incident, while Segun was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
“Johnson, Segun and Gbenga had gone to a party at Glasshouse on that day. There was a disagreement between him and one of the commercial motorcyclists over payment of the fare. During the argument, the motorcyclist stabbed Johnson and one of his friends, who intervened.
“Johnson was left in a pool of blood. His body was removed and deposited in the Mainland General Hospital morgue. We are still on the trail of the okada rider,” the source said.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident.
“The victim and his friend had misunderstanding with the okada rider. The rider stabbed one of them to death and fled from the scene. The command is on the trail of the suspect while the corpse has been deposited in the morgue for autopsy,” she said.
