- Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila has called for unity in the country
- He said Nigerians have a lot to benefit from each other if they stay as one
Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila who is the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives has called on Igbos to believe in the Nigeria project and not to secede.
There has been agitation for secession from some groups in the south east region especially the Movement for the Actualisation of a Sovereign State Of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) have staged protests and pushed for the break-away of an independent region but Gbajabiamila called for a united country.
Daily Post reports that the Reps leader spoke on Saturday, January 21 at the ‘New Year Luncheon’ he organised for Igbo communities in his Surulere 1 Constituency.
He urged all ethnic groups to believe in “one another for a stronger, better nation”.
He said “Nigeria will be a better place if all Hausas, Igbos, Yorubas and the other ethnic groups see ourselves as brothers and work together for the peace and development of the country.
“Our being together in one country is not by accident; it is for a purpose. We must therefore support one another and strive towards achieving that purpose of a stronger, more prosperous nation”.
He noted that ethnicity was not playing an important role anymore as non-Yoruba speakers were holding political positions in the state and wielding enormous powers.
Gbajabiamila further described the Igbos as economically strong and politically sagacious, as they were a force to reckon with in the affairs of the state.
