This was coming barely two weeks when a similar fire outbreak occurred in Odopetu Market, one of the traditional markets in Akure
Although there was no human casualties, however, foodstuff and buildings were destroyed in the inferno. Many of the traders who were affected by the fire incident were crying and lamented the incident that cost them their means of livelihood.

One of the traders selling food stuff at the place, Mrs Bola Makinde, said she just got a phone call around 1am that her shop has been gutted by fire. She said she immediately rushed to the place and on getting there she found out that all her belongings had been destroyed by the fire.
Also a motorcycle repairer, Mr Abiola Ojo said someone just called him in the midnight that his shop was burning and he immediately rushed there only to discover that his shop has been razed by fire.
He maintained that no one could ascertain the cause of the incident but said that all his tools and three motorcycles of his customers under repairs were destroyed by the fire.
Also one of the affected traders who identified herself as Mrs. Bola Yusuf said she just stocked her shop with foodstuffs after the Christmas and New Year festivities.
She lamented that she had lost everything to the inferno, saying the money used to buy her foodstuffs was sourced from micro credit scheme.
The people living in the area said the cause of the inferno was unknown describing the fire incident as mysterious.
