IG deploys intervention forces in Ile-Ife as operatives nab suspects

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris has deployed a Special Intervention Force in Ile-Ife, Osun State to stop the violence which had claimed about five lives in the ancient town.

The Force said its operatives had arrested the principal suspect including some thugs that caused the death of the victims.

The police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood declined to name the principal suspect, saying investigation was ongoing to apprehend other accomplices.

But Moshood in a statement said the intervention force was led by the Commissioner of Police in charge of PMF, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

He said the SIF comprised five Police Mobile Force units, five cells of Counter -Terrorism Unit, conventional policemen; Special Anti-Robbery Squad; Intelligence Response Team; Technical Intelligence Unit, Special Investigation Bureau and detachment of Explosive and Ordinance Department and the police canine section.

With its headquarters in Ile-Ife,  the team was expected to cover the entire Ile-Ife and environs, and other flash-points and trouble spots in Osun State.

“The Joint Investigation Team consisting the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, FSARS, SIP and Osun State Police Command CIID headed by an experienced Commissioner of Police under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General of Police (FCIID) are already in Ile-Ife and have succeeded in arresting the arrow-head and principal suspect including some of his thugs that caused the death of most of the innocent victims,” the spokesman said.
