Absence of Magistrate Kikelomo Ayeye of a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court yesterday stalled the trial of Nigerian artiste, Stephanie Otobo, for alleged blackmail.
Otobo has been having a running battle with the Senior Pastor of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman, over alleged failed marriage proposal.
The accused and a 43-year old man, Wisdom Godstime, were arraigned by the police before the court on March 20, on a three-count charge of conspiracy, blackmail and threat to life.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. Ayeye later granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two gainfully employed sureties in like sum, while their trial was fixed for yesterday.
However, the magistrate was not available to preside over the matter yesterday as she was said to be attending a conference. The trial is now expected to start on May 3.
According to the police prosecutor, M. A. Animashaun, the defendants and others at large committed the alleged offences on February 14, about 10.30 a.m. at Police College, Ikeja, Lagos.
He alleged that they conspired among themselves to steal by demanding property with menace and attempted to extort money.
