The items which included boosters, signal amplifiers, cables among others used for the illegal connection and distribution were seized and destroyed during the raid which covered Zik Avenue, Achara Layout, Coal Camp and Agbani Road.
The Zonal manager of NCC, Mrs. Ngozi Okeke, told reporters, that the operation which was tagged ‘Strike Force’ was led by Mr. Macfoy Akachukwu in the company of one Copyright Inspector, 10 armed policemen, a staff of Multi Choice and many other support staff for the first day of the operation.
The second day of the raid which was strictly for cutting of the cables used by the pirates in the re-broadcast she noted was led by Ukwu Obinna in the company of one Copyright Inspector, staff of Multi Choice, 10 armed mobile Policemen and other support staff.
Mrs. Okeke disclosed that the operation was facilitated by Multi Choice whose right in the broadcast of some content is being infringed upon by illegal distributors/pirates who use their decodes meant for private use to connect to other unsuspecting individuals at N1000 monthly causing financial loss to the company.
On behalf of the Director General Afam Ezekude, the zonal manager thanked stakeholders for their support and also solicited the help and co operation of concerned and good spirited individuals across the country to join hands with the Commission in fighting the menace as the commission cannot do it alone.
