The Emir of Kano state Muhammad Sanusi has condemned criminal activities by religious leaders in Nigeria.

Presenting a paper on Promoting Investment in the Midst of Economic Challenges at the Kaduna Economic and Investment Summit, the Emir said the state governor Nasir El-Rufai has done well in fighting religious criminals in Kaduna.

"If you are an Imam or a pastor and shed blood you are a criminal," Sanusi said.
"Nasir, I support you on this one, any pastor or Imam that commits crime should be arrested, tried and jailed were necessary," the Emir added.

Emir Sanusi said, "If you are an Imam or a pastor and shed blood you are a criminal."
Sanusi also called on all religious leaders in Nigeria to practice within the provisions of the bible and Quran and desist from romancing with politicians or using politics in teaching tenets of religion.

"We are all religious people, and we must wage an intellectual war because Islam is univocal.
We must stand up and challenge some intellectual world views on religion and culture," he said.
The Emir's statement comes on the heels of the detention of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria Ibrahim El-zakzaky and his wife over some "illegal" religious activities in Kaduna state.
The duo were arrested after a clash between some Shitte members and the troops attached to the convoy of the chief of army staff Tukur Buratai.

However, despite a court order for his release, the Department of State Services is yet to free the controversial Islamic leader.
Recall that the Emir on Wednesday, April 5, condemned the statement made by the Zamfara state government that the outbreak of meningitis was due to a curse for the sins of the people.
