The Governor of Ekiti State and Chairman of the Governors’ Forum of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, on Friday lambasted the factional chairman of the party, Senator Alimodu Sheriff, for walking out on party leaders during a pre-reconciliation meeting held in Abuja.
The PDP, which ruled Nigeria from 1999 to 2015, had been embroiled in a leadership crisis, which led to the emergence of two factions. A court had recently recognised Sheriff as the chairman of the party.
In a bid to reconcile members of the party, former President Goodluck Jonathan, Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, and other chieftains had on Thursday convened a meeting which was attended by members of the factional groups led by Sheriff and Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi.
Sherif, however, walked out on the leaders during the meeting, saying that he was not given an opportunity to address the members in his capacity as the PDP’s chairman.
Angered by Sheriff’s action, Fayose in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, on Friday described Sheriff as “an impostor, an impossible character, agent of darkness” sent by the APC-sent to destroy the PDP.
“I will not work with him. He is a betrayer of confidence and does not represent peace and hope. I will not be part of any meeting with such a desperado,” he said.
“If I may holistically respond to his statement on no reconciliation, the response is good riddance to bad rubbish.”
Fayose accused Sheriff of plotting with the ruling All Progressives Congress to turned Nigeria into a one party state.

The governor, who described those supporting Sheriff as enemies of Nigeria, vowed that Nigeria would not end up in a one party system.
He added, “Sheriff has said he can no longer work with Jonathan or any of the PDP leaders. This is an indication that he prefers working with the opposition in order to destroy the PDP.”
