Enefiok Essien, the vice-chancellor, University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom, has issued a two-week ultimatum to Fulani herdsmen to remove their cattle from the institution’s campuses.
Godfrey Essien, director, public relations, UNIUYO, in a statement, said the VC gave the ultimatum during a meeting with Fulani herdsmen led by Farouk Allah, in Uyo on Monday.
According to the statement, the ultimatum took effect from Friday, April 28, and would expire on May 11.

The university said it had been observing herds of cattle frequently moving around the university main campus, and as such, urged the herdsmen to restrain their cattle from entering the institution in order to avoid conflict.
“There are herds of cattle constantly moving around the main campus and therefore, we call on the leadership of the herdsmen to restrain their cattle from entering the university in order to avoid conflict and discord,” he said.
Nkana Efik, the chief security officer of the university, was mandated to liaise with the herdsmen to ensure that the cows were taken out of the campuses within two weeks.
