Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of Nigeria (L); Dr Alex Obiogbolu, Anambra State gubernatorial aspirant (R)
THE Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday assured that it would never be a one man party as proven by the case of former President Olusegun, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and even governors who left but the party remains virile platform.
It said the exit of the prominent politicians only wounded but not kill the party.

Speaking in Abuja while providing expression of interest and nomination forms to Dr Alex Obiogbolu, for the November 18 Anambra State gubernatorial election, the National Organizing Secretary of the National Caretaker Committee (NCC) of the party, Senator Abdul Ningi, said that PDP has risen from the ashes of the defections.
He said: “We said one of our cardinal principle is that this party is not a one-man party. This party has individuals that left the PDP beginning with the former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua died, etc.
“That has been our plight. This party can do without a single individual or groups of individuals.”
“Five of our governors left, we were wounded but not defeated and we are rising up from ashes of those who have left.”
He said the recent leadership crisis has strengthened the party as it had given it an opportunity to do a sober reflection.
Ningi added: “We are also happy that the crisis has given us the opportunity to look inwards, to look at mistakes, look at where we went wrong and try to make amends.”
“This party has also left its doors open for those who have left to come back because PDP is their natural turf.”
“A lot of them have discovered that where it matters is this party.”

He observed that the crises besetting the country today were not there while the PDP was in power, noting that Nigerians have now seen the difference.
Also speaking, the National Publicity Secretary of the NCC, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, explained that the party crashed the cost of its gubernatorial expression of interest and nominations from N11million to N6million to broaden participation by members.
He said Nigerians have not lost confidence in the party and the party was working toward having at least 30 state governors by 2019.
Meanwhile, Dr Obiogbolu, who became the first governorship aspirant from Anambra to pick gubernatorial nomination form, has assured that PDP was primed to recapture the state in the forthcoming election.
He observed that the apparent mass defection of members of the party happened only at the top but with no bearing on the grassroots.
Obiogbolu however expressed the confidence that all those who left the party would return to its fold after the primaries.
The aspirant recalled that crisis in the Anambra state chapter of the party opened the way for the crisis that engulfed that party at the centre, noting that it arose from impunity and imposition of candidates, saying “by the time the cancer came, it took the whole body and went to the head.”
According to him, the problem on the Anambra PDP has now been transferred to the ruling party in the state.

He said: “Fortunately for us, God did miracle for us in Anambra state that posits victory for us. The first miracle is that we are more fortunate than Edo and Ondo states. These two states went into election with the house divided, without a definitive statement.”
“God did it that just before our gubernatorial primaries, the Supreme Court gave a definite judgment (on the leadership crisis).”
“The second miracle that God did for us is that the cancer that has been troubling Anambra state suddenly vanished and the virus transferred itself into APGA.”
Noting that these were two signs that indicated God’s love for Anambra PDP, he assured that the people of the state would be mobilized for victory at the election.
