Policemen in Imo state have arrested two men who allegedly murdered a catholic priest, Reverend Father Cyriacus Onunkwo last Friday. According to Channels, Governor Rochas Okorocha made this known during an address at the Government House in the capital Owerri, on Wednesday.
The men allegedly kidnapped Father Onunkwo from his vehicle in Orlu town, Orlu Local Government Area before gruesomely murdering him. The priest’s body was later discovered in a bush in Omuma Village, Orlu East Local Government Area the following day.
Speaking on the security situation in the state, Governor Okorocha said that two suspects had been arrested in connection with the murder.
“The suspects are already making reasonable confession that can help police in further investigations,” he said.
Okorocha then assured residents of the Heartland State that the government has put in place measures to ensure the protection of lives and property, urging them to go about their lawful business without fear.
The governor, who recently came under heavy criticism for the demolition of markets in Owerri, called for an end to the numerous hate speeches and negative social media campaigns by some politicians within the state and beyond.
He reiterated his stand that government was committed to the growth and development of the state for the benefit of all.
