Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial Districtat the National Assembly, Comrade Senator Shehu Sani has blasted President Muhammadu Buhari over his complaints while signing the 2018 budget, reminding that ‘signature’, grudgingly or happily, is the ‘crown of consent’.
Shehu Sani who stressed that “force of conscience” should propel and control the pen for our signature not “force of compulsion”, insisted that the President should not have signed a document he considered to be full of infractions.

“The Pen for our signatures should be propelled and Controlled by the force of our conscience and not the Force of compulsion. The President should not have signed a document he considers full of infractions. Signature, grudgingly or happily is the Crown of Consent.”
Ujuayalogu'sBlog recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari, while signing the 2018 appropriation into law in Aso Villa, Abuja on Wednesday, accused the National Assembly of making cuts amounting to N347billion in the allocations to 4,700 projects submitted to them for consideration and introduced 6,403 projects of their own amounting to N578billion.

According to the President, many of the projects cut are critical and may be difficult, if not impossible, to implement with the reduced allocation. Some of the new projects inserted by the National Assembly have not been properly conceptualized, designed and costed and will therefore be difficult to execute.
He also added that many of these new projects introduced by the National Assembly have been added to the budgets of most MDAs with no consideration for institutional capacity to execute them or the incremental recurrent expenditure that may be required.
