Why Police Backed Down On Saraki’s Invitation

The police had on Sunday said it was inviting Saraki for questioning over the Offa, Kwara State robbery incidence in which over 33 persons were killed, including nine policemen

Facts have emerged on why the Nigerian Police backed down of the invitation to the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

The police had on Sunday said it was inviting Saraki for questioning over the Offa, Kwara State robbery incidence in which over 33 persons were killed, including nine policemen.

However, by Monday when Saraki sent his Aide-De-Camp to collect the invitation letter, he was told that it was only a statement that was required of him.

Credible sources told The Eagle Online that the decision of the Police to back out of the invitation was as result of the intervention of the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN).

It was learnt that Osinbajo summoned the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to the Presidential Villa for the sole purpose of discussing the issue.

Idris was said not to have consulted the Presidency before the statement summoning Saraki, signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, was issued.
