Schools in Anambra state will not resume on the 18th of January.
According to the Governor of the state, Willie Obiano, schools will now resume on the first of February, 2021.
Governor Willie Obiano who made the announcement during a statewide broadcast on the ravaging second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, said that the new resumption date is to give school managers enough time to make adequate arrangements and preparations before resumption.
According to the Governor, the second wave of the virus is more deadly, as one hundred and ten positive cases have been recorded between 7th December 2020, and 11th January 2021 in the state, emphasizing that his administration anticipated the rise because ndi Anambra who are well travelled came back from various parts of the world for Christmas and new year celebrations.
Governor Obiano however expressed worry that ndi Anambra are becoming non-challant about COVID-19 protocols, expressing optimism that there will be increased efforts just like during the first wave and stressed that early testing is key to surviving the virus.
To minimise infection, Governor Obiano made other pronouncements including that all government offices must observe COVID-19 guidelines, ban on night clubs is still in place, no large gatherings is allowed, all markets have one week to perform neccessary set ups or risk closure, transport operators should revert to all safety practices, churches should set up an action team and go back to the basics of COVID-19 prevention, wearing of protective face masks in the open is a must, among others.
While commending the frontline health workers and asking for greater dedication on their part, the Governor assured that with all hands on deck, attack of the virus will be stalled, until they take delivery of the vaccine.
