According to The PUNCH, the Imo State Police Command has rearrested a murder suspect, Miracle Ajogu, who fled from the command’s custody when gunmen on the early hours of Monday attacked the police command headquarters, razed part of it and burnt over 50 vehicles.
The attackers also invaded the Owerri Correctional Centre and freed 1,884 inmates and told them to go ” Jesus has risen. You have reason to be here again.”
They equally attacked a military base at Umuorji on Owerri- Onitsha expressway, burnt one soldier in a car and set ablaze four operational vehicles belonging to the military.
A source, who confirmed the murder suspect’s rearrest to The PUNCH, disclosed that he had been brought to police command headquarters and would be charged to court in no distant time.
Our correspondent learnt on Thursday that the presence of the suspect in his town in Nkwerre in the Nkwerre Local Government Area of the state caused panic among the villagers.
The source said “The police have rearrested one Miracle Ajogu of Onusa Nkwerre in Nkwerre LGA of Imo State. He murdered his father and was subsequently arrested. The case was transferred to the command’s headquarters in Owerri by the Division.
“He was among the suspects that escaped from the state Criminal Investigation Department in Owerri on Monday when the hoodlums attacked the headquarters of the police in Imo State.
“The suspect has been rearrested in his village where he fled to. The operatives of the Nkwerre Divisional Police Headquarters rearrested him and he is cooperating.”
When contacted, a police spokesperson for the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the rearrest of the fleeing murder suspect.
He disclosed that the command was working with other security agencies in the state to ensure that all the escapees were rearrested and prosecuted, accordingly.
