The Kaduna State government has announced that it inherited a substantial debt exceeding N10 billion from the previous administration led by Nasir El-Rufai.
Governor Uba Sani, who took office recently, has directed the Kaduna State Power Supply Company (KAPSCO) to verify and address the outstanding liabilities.
In a statement released today, the government disclosed that N7.5 billion of the debt has already been verified and settled.
It said the payment represents a significant portion of the inherited financial obligations, with the state government now focusing on the remaining balance.
Governor Uba Sani’s directive to KAPSCO is said to be part of his administration’s commitment to addressing inherited financial issues transparently and efficiently.
The government further said the verification and settlement of the debt are part of its efforts to manage the state’s finances responsibly and ensure that the transition from the previous administration is handled with due diligence.
The Kaduna State government is expected to provide further updates on the remaining balance and any additional steps being taken to resolve the financial challenges inherited from the El-Rufai administration.
